The Vision

Excursion trains operating every weekend year-round (minus holidays), weather permitting, on a 34 mile 3-hour round trip from Jacumba to the Dos Cabezas siding and return. Tickets are priced at $65/Adult, $50/Child 3-17 and $55/Senior 65+. Trips run at 9:00am and 1:00pm, and carry up to 191 passengers. Later expansion of excursions to include Sunset Dinner Trains on select weekends and special event trips throughout the year.

A 1950s style streamlined train consisting of five climate-controlled passenger cars and a generator car acquired from Iowa Pacific's former Train to Christmas Town in Santa Cruz, CA. Locomotives would likely need to be provided by the freight rail operator, and all excursions would need to be operated or at least overseen by their crews for safety reasons.

A rehabilitated Jacumba railroad depot with 405-foot by 9-foot concrete platform extending west from the depot. A 1.5 acre crushed gravel parking lot for excursion patrons. A 350-foot extension of current spur track across from the Jacumba depot to accommodate and maintain excursion consist when not in use to keep main track clear for freight and work trains. 575 feet of spur track fenced off to protect consist from vandalism.

Opening up Carrizo Gorge for public train excursions dramatically increases tourism to Jacumba and boosts Jacumba's and East San Diego County's economies. A revitalized downtown Jacumba with hotels, restaurants and stores supporting the train excursions.
